Kathy Merrone VIEW PROFILE

Age 63 of Elmira, NY. She was born October 26, 1952 in Elmira, NY, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, January 6th, 2016 at home. She is predeceased by her parents John A. and Eleanor J. Merrone along with her dear friend Scott L. Cokley. Kathleen is survived by her brother, John A. (Sharon Osburn) Merrone; niece, Cynthia M. (Mark J.) Manning; nephew, John Christopher Merrone; great nephews, Blake M. Elston, Timothy ("TJ') Manning, Marguerite (Maggie) Manning, and Austin J. Manning. Best Friend and confidant, Donna Henry. After graduating from Southside High School (72'), Kathy attended night school for bookkeeping. She spent her younger years working at Capabilities, City School District and A.R.C. through the office of Vocational Rehabilitation Program. Kathleen did data entry, supervised the rummage sales and worked in the Chemung County Infirmary gift shop through the program, but there is no denying Kathy's favorite job was being a wonderful assistant to her mother handling the family businesses. Kathy also did more than 500 hours of Volunteer work through St. Joseph's Hospital. She cherished her time as a volunteer and took great pride in assisting the other volunteer's in publishing the annual cookbooks. Kathy was an avid bowler. As a member of the U.C.P. (now known as Able 2) bowling team, She won two gold medals in the Special Olympics for her talent and several other tournaments leaving many trophies to show for it. Kathy loved spending time with her Great Niece and Nephews attending dance recitals, ball games, playing games and just being silly. Most importantly Kathy wanted more than anything to be helpful. She helped with any little task she could, whether making your coffee, cutting up vegetables, emptying the dishwasher, letting the dog in and out or looking up recipes for the next meal, she jumped right in. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend. The family will receive relatives and friends at Kalec's Funeral Home, 705 E. Church St., Elmira, NY 14901, Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. followed by a prayer service at the Funeral Home then her Mass of Christian Burial @ 1 pm, in St. Mary's Church on the Southside, Father MacNamara as Celebrant. Committal and interment will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Family and Friends are invited to celebrate Kathy's life at Mark and Cynthia Manning's home following the interment. Those wishing may remember Kathleen with charitable contributions to Able 2 or St. Joseph's Volunteer Program (envelopes available at the Funeral Home & Church).
