Age 62 of Cedar Street, Elmira, NY, passed away February 28, 2017 after a lengthy illness. He was born November 29, 1954 in Elmira, son of the late Donald Lee and Tillie (Tekla) Theresa Grabowski Smith. He is survived by his loving wife and companion, Susan B. Vane of Elmira; brothers, Donald J. (Elaine) Smith and Michael L. Smith, both of Elmira; estranged son, Paul Hill; and several nieces and nephews. Frank attended Southside High School Class of '72. He attended Corning Community College, earning 2 degrees, one in Computer Programming and one in Business Management. He also earned credits at Elmira College in International Studies. Frank was a US Army Veteran and was proud to have served part of that time as a Military Policeman at the 57th Military Police Acadamy at West Point, NY. Frank spent his life loving people and using his time in the entertainment field. He was an accomplished musician, playing in many bands. He loved music and played often. Frank was an avid motorcyclist. He was a life member of the DAV since 1977, a member of American Legion Post 154, Elmira Heights and Chapter 803 Vietnam Veterans of America. He loved his dogs, past and present, especially Sammy, and he had many friends. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM with funeral service immediately following at 12:00PM. The Reverend John DeSocio will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Any donations can be directed to the Bath VA, 76 Veterans Ave., c/o Muriel Brown CLC3, Bath, NY 14810, or to Frank's wife, Susan, as she has to wait for her transition time.
